Exploring expressive and functional capacities of knitted textiles exposed to wind influence

This study explores the design possibilities with knitted architectural textiles subjected to wind. The purpose is investigate how such could be applied alter usual static expression of exterior and urban elements, as facades windbreaks. investigations were made on a manual knitting machine CNC (computer numerically controlled) flat machine. Four techniques - tuck stitch, hanging stitches, false lace, drop stitch explored based their ability create three-dimensional effect surface level well an scale. Physical textile samples produced using those four controlled action airflow. Digital experiments also conducted, probe digitally simulating behaviours in results indicate that especially technique exhibits interesting potentials. variations pattern generate both aesthetic volumetric seem beneficial terms wind speed reduction. Thus, these types architecture are efficient improving user experience comfort windy areas.
