Exploring extreme magnetization phenomena in directly driven imploding cylindrical targets

This paper uses extended-magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) simulations to explore an extreme magnetized plasma regime realisable by cylindrical implosions on the OMEGA laser facility. is characterized highly compressed magnetic fields (greater than 10~kT across fuel), which contain a significant proportion of implosion energy and induce large electrical currents in plasma. Parameters governing different magnetization processes such as Ohmic dissipation suppression instabilities tension are presented, allowing for optimization experiments study specific phenomena. For instance, dopant added target gas-fill can enhance flux compression while enabling spectroscopic diagnosis imploding core. In particular, use Ar K-shell spectroscopy investigated performing detailed non-LTE atomic kinetics radiative transfer calculations MHD data. Direct measurement core electron density temperature would be possible, both impact final thermal pressure obtained. By assuming field frozen into motion, shown good approximation implosions, could used estimate ruling dynamics; example, relation given inferring whether thermally-driven or current-driven transport dominating.
