Exploring ideological differences in Taiwanese perceptions of cross-strait relations

Abstract This is an exploratory research that seeks to investigate how ideology predicts Taiwanese perceptions of cross-strait relations, including attitudes toward Taiwan independence, mainland China and Chinese people, invasion Taiwan, democracy. We took inductive approach left-right differences in offer a more systematic empirical understanding beyond the West. To do so, we conducted nationally representative survey among adult citizens ( N = 1,350). Findings revealed those who identified with Left (vs. Right) tended demonstrate negative relations. Specifically, political left about outlook democracy while favoring than right. Furthermore, perceives both people negatively These findings underscore role for full comprehension as they indicated fundamental difference between vs. right terms The present extends existing psychology literature on international particularly East Asian context.
