Exploring the formation processes on open-air palaeolithic sites: A late Middle Pleistocene Acheulean assemblage at Arbo site (Miño River basin, Spain)

چکیده
The analysis of formation processes (e.g., degree surface alterations, size ranges, orientation patterns, fabric features, density, spatial etc.) in archaeological sites provide relevant information about the type and intensity sedimentary disturbances. This is particularly important Palaeolithic sites, especially when stratigraphic context suggests certain study follows a multivariate approach to Acheulean site (pre-dating Marine Isotopic Stage -MIS- 5) at Arbo (Lower Miño basin, Spain). two layers analyzed (levels OC1 OC2) with remains (exclusively lithic artefacts) show matrix-supported gravel cobble facies, which are compatible extensive results obtained demonstrate that altered assemblages different ways, some sorting abrasion, addition significant alteration initial patterns. However, disturbances observed not sufficient invalidate documented techno-typological information, representative patterns human behaviour site. reinforces importance this as necessary step interpretation any site, ages.

Late Pleistocene fishes of the Tennessee River Basin: an analysis of a late Pleistocene freshwater fish fauna from Bell Cave (site ACb-2) in Colbert County, Alabama, USA.
The Tennessee River Basin is considered one of the most important regions for freshwater biodiversity anywhere on the globe. The Tennessee River Basin currently includes populations of at least half of the described contemporary diversity of extant North American freshwater fishes, crayfish, mussel, and gastropod species. However, comparatively little is known about the biodiversity of this bas...

Paleoecological sources indicate that the location and extent of Sierra Nevada rangelands have varied significantly during the last 20,000 years. Modern vegetative associations are recent, with montane wet meadows appearing during the last 3,000 years. A late Pleistocene sagebrush grassland existed where montane and subalpine forests occur today. In the central Sierra a pattern of deglaciation ...
متن کاملApplication of U/Th and 40Ar/39Ar Dating to Orgnac 3, a Late Acheulean and Early Middle Palaeolithic Site in Ardèche, France
Refined radio-isotopic dating techniques have been applied to Orgnac 3, a Late Acheulean and Early Middle Palaeolithic site in France. Evidence of Levallois core technology appeared in level 4b in the middle of the sequence, became predominant in the upper horizons, and was best represented in uppermost level 1, making the site one of the oldest examples of Levallois technology. In our dating s...
متن کاملA Middle Palaeolithic wooden digging stick from Aranbaltza III, Spain
Aranbaltza is an archaeological complex formed by at least three open-air sites. Between 2014 and 2015 a test excavation carried out in Aranbaltza III revealed the presence of a sand and clay sedimentary sequence formed in floodplain environments, within which six sedimentary units have been identified. This sequence was formed between 137-50 ka, and includes several archaeological horizons, at...
متن کاملStable isotope paleoecology of Late Pleistocene Middle Stone Age humans from the Lake Victoria basin, Kenya.
Paleoanthropologists have long argued that environmental pressures played a key role in human evolution. However, our understanding of how these pressures mediated the behavioral and biological diversity of early modern humans and their migration patterns within and out of Africa is limited by a lack of archaeological evidence associated with detailed paleoenvironmental data. Here, we present t...
