Failure Modes and Reliability Oriented System Design for Aerospace Power Electronic Converters

Aircraft electrification has been a major trend in aviation industry for past 20 years. Given the increasing electrical power requirement future more electric aircraft and hybrid aircraft, research efforts ongoing high conversion air-borne systems. Safety critical nature of systems places reliability aerospace converters as design concern. In this paper, electronic system is studied with emphasis on lifetime limiting factors sub components. Reliability voltage source at different levels are modelled starter generator drive converter. A key observation that Si IGBT devices sufficient respect to requirements low medium (up 540 V). At higher voltages (above V), multi level topologies necessary designing IGBTs. constant profile drive, minimally affected by wear-out failure film capacitors converter DC links. without enhanced derating, dominated cosmic ray induced random failures. Simulation results demonstrate (810 2 L topology SiC mosfets outperform based 3 reliability.
