Field evaluation for playback surveys: species-specific detection probabilities and distance estimation errors in a nocturnal bird community

چکیده
Capsule During playback experiments, the distance from surveyor to call influences chances of detection across nocturnal species in farmland and woodland habitats.Aim To evaluate how affects capability, expressed as probability hearing broadcast calls estimating their distances correctly, a bird community. Methods We conducted field experiment areas within an agricultural landscape winter summer 2020. Vocalizations five (Little Owl Athene noctua, Tawny Strix aluco, Long-eared Asio otus, Common Nightingale Luscinia megarhynchos, Water Rail Rallus aquaticus) were at various surveyor, who attempted detect them and, if successful, classify into predefined zones. Binomial GLMMs used estimate function distance, effects habitat season on this relationship. Results The had significant effect both habitats. In woodland, was significantly higher winter, while correctly generally summer. An increase experience improved our mainly terms estimation, for which errors mostly overestimates. Conclusions estimation accuracy varied between species. Most Little detected 200 m radius 100 other For multi-species community-level study, surveys are thus likely be most representative surrounding where is highest, estimates observer inaccurate cases. Field evaluations such should implemented prior actual surveys.

Field evaluation of distance-estimation error during wetland-dependent bird surveys
Context. The most common methods to estimate detection probability during avian point-count surveys involve recording a distance between the survey point and individual birds detected during the survey period. Accurately measuring or estimating distance is an important assumption of these methods; however, this assumption is rarely tested in the context of aural avian point-count surveys. Aims....
متن کاملMob Mentality: Effect of a Mobbing Playback on Avian Detection Probabilities during Point Count Surveys
The probability of detecting an individual or species is an important parameter in studies using mark-recapture and occupancy models to estimate population sizes and occurrence. Because low detection probabilities result in biased estimators and decreased precision, biologists seek methods that maximize detection probability. We evaluated whether we could increase detections of bird species by ...

MaterialsAndMethods This study is retrospective cohort study, with random sampling. It involved 60 pregnant ladies at first trimester; the date of conception was estimated u...
متن کاملsimulation and experimental studies for prediction mineral scale formation in oil field during mixing of injection and formation water
abstract: mineral scaling in oil and gas production equipment is one of the most important problem that occurs while water injection and it has been recognized to be a major operational problem. the incompatibility between injected and formation waters may result in inorganic scale precipitation in the equipment and reservoir and then reduction of oil production rate and water injection rate. ...
