Field validation of a detectable, magnetic, cementitious grout for rock fracture grouting

This paper presents the development and field-scale demonstration of a cementitious grout that enables detection in subsurface via addition magnetite . Through strategic use injection borehole an array monitoring boreholes for conducting pre- post-injection magnetic surveys, combined with geologically-based model simulating field anomaly, this technology can locate volume within subsurface. A series laboratory tests were conducted to show Bayferrox 318 M microfine does not detrimentally affect fluidity, penetrability , gelling, bleed compressive strength fluid solid ratio = 0.7 15% content was then injected into interval at 40–50 m depth, changes measured six surrounding boreholes. Field trial results anomalies (due injection) correspond well geological features identified nearby site investigation these be detected distance 3 m. By optimising fit between simulations anomaly observations, final geometry grouted rock could determined. Results preferentially penetrated two coal beds along bedding planes cross-cut hole.
