Finite element analysis of surface modes in phononic crystal waveguides
The study of surface modes in phononic crystal waveguides in the hypersonic regime is a burgeoning field with a large number of possible applications. By using the finite element method, the band structure and the corresponding transmission spectrum of surface acoustic waves in phononic crystal waveguides generated by line defects in a silicon pillar-substrate system were calculated and investi...
متن کاملInteraction of waveguide and localized modes in a phononic crystal
– The transmission properties of phononic crystal waveguides with grafted stub resonators were measured. The phononic crystal consists of a two-dimensional periodical array of steel rods immersed in water. Waveguides for acoustic waves are created by removing a line defect and stubs are formed by removing rods from the sidewalls of the waveguide. Depending on the stub geometry, definite wavelen...
متن کاملNonlinear Localized Modes In Photonic Crystal Waveguides
E xamples of the most significant recent research in optics and engineering are published each year in the December issue of OPN. This issue is comprised of short descriptions of the "hottest" topics in current optics research. Selection criteria applied to submissions are as follows: • the accomplishments described must have been published in a refereed journal in the year prior to publication...
متن کاملModes of coupled photonic crystal waveguides.
We consider the modes of coupled photonic crystal waveguides. We find that the fundamental modes of these structures can be either even or odd, in contrast with the behavior in coupled conventional waveguides, in which the fundamental mode is always even. We explain this finding using an asymptotic model that is valid for long wavelengths.
