First Principle Model of an Electric ECS Pack

Abstract Fully electric environmental control systems for aircraft are designed but currently rarely implemented. Simulation models of such in the early design phase have shown a lot challenges: high power demand, complex architecture, difficult strategies and sizing. In order to explore what performance figures physically possible, first principle model has been developed on basis purely thermodynamic considerations. Similar Carnot thermal engine, which tells efficiency is reachable, an ECS can serve as reference system minimum amount needed fulfil requirements. Different specific technical design, this allows more general conclusions.
