Flame spread behavior characterization of discrete fuel array under a forced flow
نویسندگان
چکیده
The forced flow driven flame spread behavior along an array of discrete wooden fuel elements was experimentally investigated, which could be important step to understanding the flow-flame interactions that govern fire spread. Fuel arrays with five different spacings (0.75, 0.875. 1.00, 1.125, and 1.25 cm) were subject speeds ranging from 2.2 4.3 m/s at approximately 0.2 intervals. For spacing-flow speed conditions tested in current study, categorized into three regimes, continuous, discrete, quenching, regimes presented a flammability map. Visual analysis top side view video data used describe changing increasing discretization overall structure as increases. An fluid mechanics heat transfer revealed correlation between Stanton number (St), Damkohler (Da), onset instabilities quenching.

By manipulating the lengths of the PMMA fue...
متن کاملEffect of Gap Height on Thin Fuel Opposed Flow Flame Spread in the Narrow Channel Apparatus
The Narrow Channel Apparatus (NCA) is designed to establish a fully developed laminar flow profile above and below a thin, flat, solid fuel or on one side of a thick fuel for flame spread investigations. Due in part to its ability to suppress buoyantly-induced flow, the NCA is under investigation as a possible test method for screening materials for space flight applications. This study focused...
متن کاملMicrogravity opposed-flow flame spread in polyvinyl chloride tubes
The effects of gravity on opposed-flow flame spread in a confined geometry were investigated experimentally in the 2.2-s drop tower at the NASA Glenn Research Center. Pure oxygen flowed through samples of 0.64-cminner-diameter polyvinyl chloride (PVC) tubing held either horizontally or vertically in a combustion chamber filled with nitrogen. The sample was ignited in normal gravity with a hot w...
متن کاملFlame spread along a fuel rod in the absence of gravity
An analysis is carried out of the steady spread of a flame with infinitely fast kinetics over a thermally thin solid rod in the absence of gravity. Due to the radial convergence on the solid surface of the heat flux heating and vaporizing the fuel, the spread rate is found to be higher than for a flame spreading over a slab, and the region of the gas around the flame which is affected by molecu...
