Intermediate-mass-fragment Production in Spallation Reactions
Two mechanisms for the production of intermediate-mass fragments (IMF) were implemented in the statistical-model code ABLA07. At low excitation energies IMFs are emitted as evaporated nuclei. If the excitation energy of the system exceeds a given threshold, IMFs are formed in the simultaneous break-up of the system, modelled according to a power-law distribution, which is suggested by several t...
متن کاملMass Measurements of Stellar and Intermediate-Mass Black-Holes
We discuss the method, and potential systematic effects therein, used for measuring the mass of stellar-mass black holes in X-ray binaries. We restrict our discussion to the method that relies on the validity of Kepler’s laws; we refer to this method as the dynamical method. We briefly discuss the implications of the mass distribution of stellar-mass black holes and provide an outlook for futur...
متن کاملInclusive Charge Flow Measurements of the Effective Mixing Angle
The LEP results for the eeective mixing angle sin 2 lept ef f from measurements of the inclusive charge ow in hadronic Z decays are presented. Using the very precise LEP data on exclusive and inclusive particle spectra to constrain the predictions of hadronization models systematic uncertainties have been reduced. The combined LEP result is sin 2 lept ef f = 0:2320 0:0010.
متن کاملGravitational Radiation from Intermediate-Mass Black Holes
Recent X-ray observations of galaxies with ROSAT, ASCA, and Chandra have revealed numerous bright off-center point sources which, if isotropic emitters, are likely to be intermediate-mass black holes, with M ∼ 102−4 M⊙. The origin of these objects is under debate, but observations suggest that a significant number of them currently reside in young high-density stellar clusters. There is also gr...
متن کاملTop-mass Measurements from D0
We present three recent analyses (Abstracts 169, 170 and 174) of the mass of the top quark (Mt) using top-antitop candidate events collected by the D0 experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider: (i) a 3.6 events/fb sample of data in the lepton+jets channel analyzed to extract a precision value of Mt using the "Matrix-Element" (ME) method, wherein each event probability is calculated from the ...
