چکیده

Abstract Background Several recent studies have used automated linguistic analysis of naturalistic speech in a picture‐description task (e.g. Cookie Theft) combined with machine learning approaches to distinguish the those dementia from healthy age‐matched controls. Extension these techniques predict continuous variables related cognitive status offers means track severity over time and evaluate effectiveness interventions. Here we examine relationship variability executive function, ability manage conflicting information speeded performance. Higher function confers protection against clinical manifestation despite underlying neurodegeneration. Method In new sample 76 adults aged 65‐75, measured using an extensive test battery, elicited spoken picture descriptions same individuals. The battery included N‐back, Simon task, verbal fluency, Color Word Interference (CWI or Stroop test), Trails A & B, elevator subtests Test Everyday Attention, Logical Memory. Two description narratives were recorded subjected generating 400 features, grouped into 8 composite measures. Result Exploratory factor revealed one accounting for most variance battery. This exhibited significant correlations four eight measures, strongest weakest: word finding difficulty, local coherence, lexical richness, syntactic complexity, reflecting greater fluency spontaneous descriptive speech. No found repetitiveness, global units, sentiment. Ongoing analyses include characterization language measures larger normative sample. Conclusion Older individuals higher as captured by common laboratory tests, also exhibit more fluent quantified analysis. difficulties may reflect overall slowing processes access long‐term memory. Automated ultimately serve inexpensive repeatable measure older at risk dementia.

Lexical Access in Persian Normal Speakers: Picture Naming, Verbal Fluency and Spontaneous Speech

Objectives: Lexical access is the process by which the basic conceptual, syntactical and morpho-phonological information of words are activated. Most studies of lexical access have focused on picture naming. There is hardly any previous research on other parameters of lexical access such as verbal fluency and analysis of connected speech in Persian normal participants. This study investigates t...

Is the fluency of language outputs related to individual differences in intelligence and executive function?

There has been little research on the fluency of language production and individual difference variables, such as intelligence and executive function. In this study, we report data from 106 participants who completed a battery of standardized cognitive tasks and a sentence production task. For the sentence production task, participants were presented with two objects and a verb and their task w...

Fluency in non-native read and spontaneous speech

Various studies have investigated the temporal aspects of non native speech and their relation to perceived fluency, because fluency constitutes an important aspect of second language proficiency. For this purpose it is important to determine which measures are most strongly correlated with perceived fluency and how these measures vary. In the present study objective measures related to percei...

Speech-in-speech perception and executive function involvement

This present study investigated the link between speech-in-speech perception capacities and four executive function components: response suppression, inhibitory control, switching and working memory. We constructed a cross-modal semantic priming paradigm using a written target word and a spoken prime word, implemented in one of two concurrent auditory sentences (cocktail party situation). The p...
