Pyruvic Acid I. Collection of Blood for the Determination of Pyruvic and Lactic Acids*
The accurate determination of pyruvic and lactic acids is a matter of considerable theoretical and practical importance. These acids play a role in the metabolism of carbohydrates, and they are found in increased concentration in the blood in conditions of thiamine deficiency. Recently we suggested (1) the determination of the ratio of lactic to pyruvic acid in the blood as a measure of oxidati...
متن کاملAn enzymatic-spectrophotometric determination of pyruvic and lactic acid in blood. Methodologic aspects.
1N11 ANY clinical and experimental problems concerning anaerobic metabolism and the accumulation of an oxygen debt have recently been studied, using Huckabee’s concept of “excess lactate” (1). Colonmetric methods have most often been used to measure pyruvic and lactic acid in blood (2, 3). The estimation of these two metabolites by an enzymatic analysis has advantages-e.g., specificity and ease...
متن کاملPlasma lactic acid and pyruvic acid levels in migraine and tension-type headache.
We examined the lactic and pyruvic acid levels in the plasma of 14 patients with migraine, 17 patients with tension-type headache, and 12 normal controls. The lactic and pyruvic acid levels in the plasma of the migraine patients were significantly higher than those of the normal controls (9.6 +/- 5.0 mg/dL and 0.51 +/- 0.30 mg/dL versus 3.3 +/- 1.9 mg/dL and 0.26 +/- 0.20 mg/dL, respectively). ...
متن کاملDegradation of Lactic Acid and Pyruvic Acid in Belousov-Zhabotinskii Reactions
The temporal degradation of the Belousov-Zhabotinskii substrates lactic acid, pyruvic acid, bromoand dibromo pyruvic acid is investigated. The only final product of non-brominated substrates is acetic acid. From brominated educts only brominated acetic acids result. The con centrations of the stable products are determined as a function of time. The gross reactions are mainly based on simple c...
متن کاملEffect of acephate (orthene) on tissue levels of thiamine, pyruvic acid, lactic acid, glycogen and blood sugar.
Effect of Acephate, an organophosphorus insecticide, on tissue levels of thiamine, pyruvic acid, lactic acid, glycogen and blood sugar, has been studied. The albino rats, injected subcutaneously with Acephate (25 mg/10 gm body wt./day) for 4 weeks and 8 weeks, showed appreciable depletion of thiamine in liver, heart, kidney, brain and blood. The depletion of thiamine was found to be more after ...
