Four Species Linked by Three Hybrid Zones: Two Instances of Repeated Hybridization in One Species Group (Genus Liolaemus)

چکیده

Hybridization is an evolutionary process that can generate diverse outcomes, such as reinforcing species boundaries, generating new species, or facilitating the introgression of locally-adapted alleles into genomic backgrounds. Liolaemus a highly clade South American lizards with ~260 and many ten are described each year. Previous studies have detected gene flow among using phylogenetic network methods and/or through comparisons nuclear mitochondrial DNA patterns, yet no study has systematically studied hybrid zones between species. Here, we compared three four in fitzingerii group Central Argentina where two L. melanops xanthoviridis , hybridize other ( shehuen ). We sampled transects were ~120 km length sequenced both genome-wide SNP data for 267 individuals. In our analyses DNA, also bi-allelic SNPs to phased (50 bp RAD loci). Population structure confirmed boundaries separating sharp, all clines <65 wide. Cline center estimates consistent alleles, but cline width significantly different producing wider estimates. The narrower shifted 4–20 southward comparison zones, indicating either sex-biased dispersal (males northward females southward), population densities unequal, moving north over time. These indicate some patterns hybridization similar across (mtDNA south), whereas variable. common geographically localized; further needed investigate whether act hard promoters speciation processes reinforcement. Nonetheless, this provides insights biotic abiotic mechanisms helping maintain within speciose system.

Hybridization and Hybrid Zones

Several primate taxa show evidence of natural hybridization, and recent genomic analyses of modern and archaic humans have revealed the prevalence of hybridization during the evolutionary history of our own lineage. Thus interest in understanding how natural hybridization occurs in our closest relatives, the nonhuman primates, has grown rapidly. However, studies of the process and dynamics of h...

Extensive introgressive hybridization within the northern oriole group (Genus Icterus) revealed by three-species isolation with migration analysis

Until recently, studies of divergence and gene flow among closely-related taxa were generally limited to pairs of sister taxa. However, organisms frequently exchange genes with other non-sister taxa. The "northern oriole" group within genus Icterus exemplifies this problem. This group involves the extensively studied hybrid zone between Baltimore oriole (Icterus galbula) and Bullock's oriole (I...

Three new species, two newly recorded species and one newly recorded genus of Lithocolletinae (Lepidoptera: Gracillariidae) from China.

The Chinese representatives of the genera Chrysaster Kumata and Cameraria Chapman (Gracillariidae: Lithocolletinae) were studied. Chrysaster is recorded for the first time in China. Three species belonging to Cameraria, C. diplodura Bai, sp. nov., C. rhynchophysa Bai, sp. nov. and C. jiulianshanica Bai, sp. nov., are described as new. Chrysaster hagicola Kumata and Cameraria magnisignata Kumata...

According to previous studies, the genus Rheum in Iran includes four species: R. turkestanicum Janisch., R. persicum Losinsk., R. ribes L. and R. khorasanicum Baradaran & Jafari. During the long-term study, based on field and many herbaria specimens, three new species including R. iranshahrii Taheri & Assadi sp. nov., R. kordestanicum Taheri & Assadi sp. nov. and R. austro-iranicum Taheri & Ass...
