Fractional second-order topological insulator from a three-dimensional coupled-wires construction

چکیده
We construct a three-dimensional second-order topological insulator with gapless helical hinge states from an array of weakly tunnel-coupled Rashba nanowires. For suitably chosen interwire tunnelings, we demonstrate that the system has fully gapped bulk as well surfaces, but hosts Kramers pair propagating along path hinges is determined by hierarchy tunnelings and boundary termination system. Furthermore, coupled-wires approach allows us to incorporate electron-electron interactions into our description. At suitable filling factors individual wires, show sufficiently strong can drive fractional phase carrying only fraction $e/p$ electronic charge $e$ for odd integer $p$.

Topological order in a correlated three-dimensional topological insulator.
Motivated by experimental progress in the growth of heavy transition metal oxides, we theoretically study a class of lattice models of interacting fermions with strong spin-orbit coupling. Focusing on interactions of intermediate strength, we derive a low-energy effective field theory for a fully gapped, topologically ordered, fractionalized state with an eightfold ground-state degeneracy. This...
متن کاملEdge states of a three-dimensional topological insulator.
We use the bulk Hamiltonian for a three-dimensional topological insulator such as Bi(2) Se(3) to study the states which appear on its various surfaces and along the edge between two surfaces. We use both analytical methods based on the surface Hamiltonians (which are derived from the bulk Hamiltonian) and numerical methods based on a lattice discretization of the bulk Hamiltonian. We find that ...
متن کاملExperimental realization of a three-dimensional topological insulator, Bi2Te3.
Three-dimensional topological insulators are a new state of quantum matter with a bulk gap and odd number of relativistic Dirac fermions on the surface. By investigating the surface state of Bi2Te3 with angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy, we demonstrate that the surface state consists of a single nondegenerate Dirac cone. Furthermore, with appropriate hole doping, the Fermi level can be ...
متن کاملRobust stabilization of a class of three-dimensional uncertain fractional-order non-autonomous systems
This paper concerns the problem of robust stabilization of uncertain fractional-order non-autonomous systems. In this regard, a single input active control approach is proposed for control and stabilization of three-dimensional uncertain fractional-order systems. The robust controller is designed on the basis of fractional Lyapunov stability theory. Furthermore, the effects of model uncertai...
متن کاملInduced superconductivity in the three-dimensional topological insulator HgTe.
A strained and undoped HgTe layer is a three-dimensional topological insulator, in which electronic transport occurs dominantly through its surface states. In this Letter, we present transport measurements on HgTe-based Josephson junctions with Nb as a superconductor. Although the Nb-HgTe interfaces have a low transparency, we observe a strong zero-bias anomaly in the differential resistance me...
