چکیده
Abstract A major cause of local to total damages is related structural pounding in a large number past earthquakes. In general, these collisions take place as result differences the dynamic characteristics colliding structures. To acquire better perception behavior structures, this paper, three structures featuring different heights are modeled series and with various configurations next each other OpenSees. determine collision effects 4-, 8- 12-story adjacent reinforced concrete special moment resisting frames were considered. Then, by conducting an incremental analysis, their seismic limit state capacities assessed via 20 near-field record subsets recommended FEMA-P695. At last, for above buildings separation distances configurations, fragility curves determined, probability exceedance from primary Hazus-MH failure criteria was estimated. addition, results compared those obtained when phenomenon did not have phenomenon. The analyses show that arranging greatly affects collapse case shorter structure placed middle two taller it most critical situation among all case, higher reduction observed performance levels.

Stochastic analysis of two adjacent structures subjected to structural pounding under earthquake excitation
Seismic pounding occurs as a result of lateral vibration and insufficient separation distance between two adjacent structures during earthquake excitation. This research aims to evaluate the stochastic behavior of adjacent structures with equal heights under earthquake-induced pounding. For this purpose, many stochastic analyses through comprehensive numerical simulations are carried out. About...
متن کاملSeparation between Adjacent Nonlinear Structures for Prevention of Seismic Pounding
Four existing methods to calculate critical separation distances between adjacent nonlinear hysteretic structures are evaluated through Monte-Carlo simulations, for which seismic excitation is characterized as a nonstationary random process. All the methods use the well-known Double Difference Combination rule, but follow different approaches to calculate the correlation coefficient ρ. Results ...
متن کاملPerformance of Mid-rise Buildings with Tubular Structure Under the Effect of Near Field Earthquakes
The aim objective of this study is to investigate the effects of near-field earthquakes on the response of mid-rise buildings with tubular structure. For this purpose, a 20-story building with a square plan of six by six bays, all with 6 m span, and story height of 3.70 m is considered. Axial force of columns, shear lag, and inter-story drift values are used as the main response parameters. N...
متن کاملSeismic Fragility Assessment of Steel SMRF Structures under Various Types of Near Fault Forward Directivity Ground Motions
In this paper, the seismic collapse probability of special steel moment-resisting frame (SSMRF) structures under near fault pulse-like and far fault ordinary ground motions is evaluated through fragility analysis. For this purpose, five sample frames with 3 to 15 stories are designed and imposed to the ground motion excitations with different characteristics. Fragility curves are derived for th...
متن کاملeffects of higher modes on vertical distribution of isolated structures under near field earthquakes
it has been pointed out the static lateral response procedure for a base-isolated structure proposed in international building code (ibc) somewhat overestimates the seismic story force. that is why in the current paper, vertical distribution of base shear over the height of isolated structures considering higher mode effects under near field earthquakes is investigated. nonlinear behavior of is...
