Odonata are biodiversity indicators that adequately represent many aquatic and semi-aquatic animal species. We recorded over two field seasons a rich lentic community of (18 species) in large artificial freshwater reservoir (ca. 55 ha) built 40 years ago. The release water from the dam summer for crop irrigation leads to desiccation parts reservoir, which prevents reproduction half species this community. identify adaptations allow eight cope with desiccation, i.e., precocious breeding period allowing emergence adults before retreat water, or delayed adult due egg diapause oviposition end winter. acts thus as an ecological trap individuals 10 developed elsewhere were attracted site without successfully there. As consequence local population extinction at each generation, presence these depends on source-sink dynamics landscape. In context global warming encourages creation reservoirs, multiplication such sinks could threaten persistence landscape maladapted desiccation.
