Full-Field Displacement Measurement Method of Metal-As-Insulation Pancake at Liquid Nitrogen Temperature

In situ measurement of metal-as-insulation (MI) high temperature superconductor (HTS) pancake deformation gives insight to its actual mechanical state. Measurement hoop strain for inner / outer turn MI is usually made by gauges. This however local and faces electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) thermal issues. Non-contact full-field displacement an interesting alternative solution. technique based on digital image correlation (DIC), which derives the field in specified region interest (ROI) between deformed state reference image. this article, we present a novel DIC experiment setup cryogenic cooling. The validated cooling test 304 stainless steel disc. Then, it used co-wound copper beryllium - tapes. Both tests are done at 80 K conduction using liquid nitrogen. Finally, experimental results compared numerical obtained from analytical formulation equilibrium generalized plane assumption.
