Functional immune diversity in reindeer reveals a high Arctic population at risk

چکیده
Climate changes the geographic range of both species as well pathogens, causing a potential increase in vulnerability populations or with limited genetic diversity. With advances high throughput sequencing (HTS) technologies, we can now define functional expressed diversity wild at larger scale and identify risk. Previous studies have used genomic DNA to major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class II reindeer. Varying numbers genes found many ungulates strongly argues for using cDNA MHC typing strategies ensure that estimates relate genes. We available reindeer genomes candidate established an HTS approach I To capture broad included samples from Southern Norway, semi-domesticated Northern Norway Artic archipelago Svalbard. Our data show medium Norwegian mainland reindeer, low Svalbard The immune provides risk if pathogenic pressure response altered environmental conditions due climate change, increased human-related activity.

Colonizing the High Arctic: Mitochondrial DNA Reveals Common Origin of Eurasian Archipelagic Reindeer (Rangifer tarandus)
In light of current debates on global climate change it has become important to know more on how large, roaming species have responded to environmental change in the past. Using the highly variable mitochondrial control region, we revisit theories of Rangifer colonization and propose that the High Arctic archipelagos of Svalbard, Franz Josef Land, and Novaia Zemlia were colonized by reindeer fr...

15 صفحه اولAdaptation of the microflora in the rumen and caecum of the high arctic Svalbard reindeer
The Svalbard reindeer relies on a highly active rumen microbial population of bacteria, fungi and protozoa for the utilization of cellulose and hemicellulose, the major components of growing plants (Rogers and Perkins, 1968). O n Svalbard the availability and quality of food changes during the year, ranging from fresh young forage in summer (July September), to a highly concentrated diet, inclu...

The dominant rumen bacteria in high-arctic Svalbard reindeer were characterized, their population densities were estimated, and ruminal pH was determined in summer, when food quality and availability are good, and in winter, when they are poor. In summer the total cultured viable population density was (2.09 +/- 1.26) X 10(10) cells ml-1, whereas in winter it was (0.36 +/- 0.29) X 10(10) cells ...
متن کاملMicrosatellite variability reveals high genetic diversity and low genetic differentiation in a critical giant panda population
Understanding present patterns of genetic diversity is critical in order to design effective conservation and management strategies for endangered species. Tangjiahe Nature Reserve (NR) is one of the most important national reserves for giant pandas (Ailuropoda melanoleuca) in China. Previous studies have shown that giant pandas in Tangjiahe NR may be threatened by population decline and fragme...
