Functional outcome of extra-articular proximal tibia fractures treated by MIPPO

Introduction: Increased incidence of road traffic accidents, natural disasters, and industrial accidents claim most human mortality morbidity. These injuries commonly involve long bones, especially the tibia due to its subcutaneous location. Tibial diaphyseal fractures are common, followed by proximal tibial fractures. The treatment changed dramatically in 1969 following study Reudi Ailgower (1) where 75% patients after internal fixation were pain free had good functional outcome at 4 years follow up. widespread use led an increase major complications like malunions (42%), superficial infections (20%), nonunion (18%), osteomyelitis (17%). This a search for newer techniques which lesser soft tissue damage yielded better results. Amongst these was biological minimally invasive percutaneous plate osteosynthesis (MIPPO). In 1990’s Krettek et al popularized Minimally Invasive Percuntaneous Plate Osteosynthesis (MIPPO) technique conventional plates placed through small incision slid tunnel. Biologically friendly plating continues remain popular today. compares MIPPO extra articular fractures, terms outcome, union rate time various associated with each group. Aims objectives 1.
