چکیده
Variable stiffness composite laminates can improve the structural performance of structures by expanding design space. This work explores application variable laminated to maximize fundamental frequency optimizing tow angle. To this end, an optimization framework is developed fiber angle for each layer based on maximization frequency. It assumed that process includes manufacturing constraints encountered in automated placement and a linear variation. The current study improves existing results considering embedded gap defects within framework. plates are symmetric, with clamped simply supported boundary conditions. optimal comparison between non-steered steered without gaps presented. Results show that, although deteriorate performance, steering still lead increase depending plate’s geometry

Buckling Analysis of Variable Angle Tow Composite Plates with One Circular Delamination
Advanced carbon-fibre composite materials are increasingly used as primary structural components in aviation and aerospace industries due to their high stiffness-to-density ratio. The design of composite aerostructures is required to meet a number of safety criteria, in particular, the damage tolerance. Delaminations, which are caused by the impact of foreign objects (tool drops, runway debris,...
متن کاملFree Vibration Analysis of Variable Stiffness Composite Laminates with Flat and Folded Shapes
In this article, free vibration analysis of variable stiffness composite laminate (VSCL) plates with flat and folded shapes is studied. In order to consider the concept of variable stiffness, in each layer of these composite laminated plates, the curvilinear fibers are used instead of straight fibers. The analysis is based on a semi-analytical finite strip method which follows classical laminat...
متن کاملStructural Integrity of Composite Laminates with Embedded Micro- sensors
The study of the mechanical interaction among the host, interface, and a device embedded within a laminated composite is important. Embedding micro-sensors in composite laminates produces material discontinuity around the inclusions. This in turn produces stress concentrations at or near the inclusions. Both 2D plane strain and 3D FEM models are developed to analyze the stress/strain state surr...
متن کاملAngle Optimization of Graphs Embedded in the Plane
In this paper we study problems of drawing graphs in the plane using edge length constraints and angle optimization. Specifically we consider the problem of maximizing the minimum angle, the MMA problem. We solve the MMA problem using a spring-embedding approach where two forces are applied to the vertices of the graph: a force optimizing edge lengths and a force optimizing angles. We solve ana...

Results of an analytical and experimental study to characterize the structural response of two compression-loaded variable stiffness composite panels are presented and discussed. These variable stiffness panels are advanced composite structures, in which tows are laid down along precise curvilinear paths within each ply and the fiber orientation angle varies continuously throughout each ply. Th...
