Gender and lawmaking in times of quotas

This article studies gender differences in lawmaking a context of quotas. I use two empirical strategies to randomize the legislators and text analysis identify topics legislation French Parliament from 2001 2017. Across Houses, find consistent evidence that female work on different than men. show they are most active women’s issues while men seem more involved military issues. provide these partly stem legislators’ individual interest. From public policy perspective, results suggest quotas likely lead shift greater prevalence Parliament.
