Generalized hydraulic geometry: Derivation based on a multiscaling formalism
[1] Relationships between channel characteristics (e.g., mean depth, water surface width, mean velocity) and discharge, known as hydraulic geometry (HG), have been extensively used by hydrologists and geomorphologists since the seminal work of Leopold and Maddock [1953]. On the basis of recent empirical evidence that the parameters of at-site HG depend systematically on the contributing area (s...
متن کاملGeneralized hydraulic geometry: Insights based on fluvial instability analysis and a physical model
[1] The power law dependencies between channel morphology and river flows, known as at-station hydraulic geometry (HG), have been recently shown to have exponents that systematically vary with scale (contributing area). To explain these empirical trends, a generalized HG model whose parameters are explicit functions of scale was derived by Dodov and Foufoula-Georgiou [2004], based on a statisti...
متن کاملGeneralized sigma-derivation on Banach algebras
Let $mathcal{A}$ be a Banach algebra and $mathcal{M}$ be a Banach $mathcal{A}$-bimodule. We say that a linear mapping $delta:mathcal{A} rightarrow mathcal{M}$ is a generalized $sigma$-derivation whenever there exists a $sigma$-derivation $d:mathcal{A} rightarrow mathcal{M}$ such that $delta(ab) = delta(a)sigma(b) + sigma(a)d(b)$, for all $a,b in mathcal{A}$. Giving some facts concerning general...
متن کاملMultiscaling a Graph-based Dataspace
Biologists increasingly need a unified view to understand and discover relationships among data elements scattered along data sources with different levels of heterogeneity. Existing approaches usually adopt ad-hoc heavyweight integration strategies, requiring a costly upfront effort involving a monolithic chain of steps to handle specific formats/schemas, with low or no reuse. This article pro...
متن کاملA note on power values of generalized derivation in prime ring and noncommutative Banach algebras
Let $R$ be a prime ring with extended centroid $C$, $H$ a generalized derivation of $R$ and $ngeq 1$ a fixed integer. In this paper we study the situations: (1) If $(H(xy))^n =(H(x))^n(H(y))^n$ for all $x,yin R$; (2) obtain some related result in case $R$ is a noncommutative Banach algebra and $H$ is continuous or spectrally bounded.
