Generalized method for the optimization of pulse shape discrimination parameters

Organic scintillators exhibit fast timing, high detection efficiency for neutrons and pulse shape discrimination (PSD) capability. PSD is essential in mixed radiation fields, where different types of need to be detected discriminated. In neutron measurements nuclear security non proliferation effective crucial, because a weak signature needs the presence strong gamma-ray background. The most commonly used deterministic technique charge integration (CI). This method requires optimization specific parameters obtain best gamma-neutron separation. These depend on scintillating material light readout device typically require lengthy process calibration reference measurement with source. this paper, we propose new based scintillation fluorescence physics that enables find optimum gates using only emitter. We demonstrate our three organic detectors: deuterated trans-stilbene, small-molecule glass, EJ-309. all investigated cases, allowed finding CI without iterative optimization.
