Generalized total internal reflection at dynamic interfaces

چکیده
Recent research developments in the area of spacetime metamaterial structures and systems have raised new questions as to how physics fundamental phenomena is altered presence modulation. In this context, we present a generalized comparative description phenomenon total internal reflection (TIR) at different dynamic interfaces. Such interfaces include, beyond classical corresponding boundaries moving bodies (moving interface--moving matter systems), formed by traveling-wave step modulation an electromagnetic parameter (e.g., refractive index) interface--stationary systems) fixed between moving-matter media (stationary systems). We first resolve problem using evanescence transmitted wave criterion for TIR applying conventional technique relative frame hopping (between laboratory rest frames), which results closed-form formulas relevant critical (incidence, reflection, phase refraction, power refraction) angles. then introduce concept catch-up limit interface alternative angle. use approach both analytically verify angle formulas, further validated full-wave (FDTD) analysis, explain related physics, Fresnel-Fizeau drag frequency transition considerations. These might find various applications ultrafast optics, gravity analogs, quantum processing.

Total internal reflection fluorescence (TIRF) is an optical effect particularly well-suited to the study of molecular and cellular phenomena at liquid/solid interfaces. Such interfaces are central to a wide range of biochemical and biophysical processes: binding to and triggering of cells by hormones, neurotransmitters, and antigens; blood coagulation at foreign surfaces; electron transport in ...

Total internal reflection (TIR) Raman spectroscopy is an experimentally straightforward, surface-sensitive technique for obtaining chemically specific spectroscopic information from a region within approximately 100-200 nm of a surface. While TIR Raman spectroscopy has long been overshadowed by surface-enhanced Raman scattering, with modern instrumentation TIR Raman spectra can be acquired from...

A polarized backlight for LCD illumination is designed and fabricated in which s-polarized light is extracted owing to selective total internal reflection at microstructures in the anisotropic layer. From the measurement, the contrast ratio in normal viewing direction can be as high as 64. Luminous uniformity of higher than 80% is achieved for polarized backlights. Furthermore, 1.6 gain in effi...

Total internal reflection fluorescence (TIRF) microscopy (TIRFM) is an elegant optical technique that provides for the excitation of fluorophores in an extremely thin axial region ("optical section"). The method is based on the principle that when excitation light is totally internally reflected in a transparent solid (e.g., coverglass) at its interface with liquid, an electromagnetic field, ca...
متن کاملTotal internal reflection: a deeper look.
In the present paper, we have presented a Maxwellian boundary-type solution for total internal reflection with unbounded incident waves at an interface between two nonabsorbing media, in which the instantaneous, time varying, and time averaged radiant fluxes have been determined at all points in the two media. Solutions for the s and p polarizations were found for which the instantaneous tangen...
