Genome-wide association of rice response to blast fungus identifies loci for robust resistance under high nitrogen

چکیده

Abstract Background Nitrogen fertilization is known to increase disease susceptibility, a phenomenon called Nitrogen-Induced Susceptibility (NIS). In rice, this has been observed in infections with the blast fungus Magnaporthe oryzae . A previous classical genetic study revealed locus ( NIS1 ) that enhances susceptibility rice under high nitrogen fertilization. order further address underlying genetics of plasticity after fertilization, we analyzed NIS greenhouse-controlled conditions panel 139 temperate japonica strains. genome-wide association analysis was conducted identify loci potentially involved by comparing identified and low conditions, an approach allowing for identification validated across different environments. We also used novel Index contributing regimes. Results global effect population, density lesions increasing 8%, on average, Three new QTL, other than NIS1, were identified. rare allele RRobN1 chromosome 6 provides robust resistance frequent NIS2 locus, 5, exacerbates condition. Finally, NIS3 , 10, buffers arising from but increases levels susceptibility. This almost fixed japonicas, as probable consequence hitchhiking cold stress adaptation. Conclusions Our results extend entire subspecies initial finding demonstrate usefulness estimating response

Unveiling the genetic loci for a panicle developmental trait using genome-wide association study in rice

Panicle size has a high correlation with grain yield in rice. There is a bottleneck to identify the additional quantitative trait loci (QTL) for panicle size due to the conventional traits used for QTL mapping. To identify more genetic loci for panicle size, a panicle developmental trait (LNTB, the length from panicle neck-knot to the first primary branch in the rachis) related to panicle size ...

Quantitative trait loci for rice blast resistance detected in a local rice breeding population by genome-wide association mapping

Plant breeding programs aim to develop cultivars with high adaptability to the specific conditions in a local region. As a result, unique genes and gene combinations have been accumulated in local elite breeding populations during the long history of plant breeding. Genetic analyses on such genes and combinations may be useful for developing new cultivars with more-desirable agronomic traits. H...

Genome-wide Association Study Identifies New Loci for Resistance to Sclerotinia Stem Rot in Brassica napus

Sclerotinia stem rot (SSR) caused by the necrotrophic fungus Sclerotinia sclerotiorum is a major disease in rapeseed (Brassica napus) worldwide. Breeding for SSR resistance in B. napus, as in other crops, relies only on germplasms with quantitative resistance genes. A better understanding of the genetic basis for SSR resistance in B. napus thus holds promise for the genetic improvement of disea...

Genome-wide Association Study Identifies New Loci for Resistance to Leptosphaeria maculans in Canola

Key message "We identified both quantitative and quantitative resistance loci to Leptosphaeria maculans, a fungal pathogen, causing blackleg disease in canola. Several genome-wide significant associations were detected at known and new loci for blackleg resistance. We further validated statistically significant associations in four genetic mapping populations, demonstrating that GWAS marker loc...

Genome-wide association analysis identifies resistance loci for bacterial blight in a diverse collection of indica rice germplasm

Bacterial blight, which is caused by Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae (Xoo), is one of the most devastating rice diseases worldwide. The development and use of disease-resistant cultivars have been the most effective strategy to control bacterial blight. Identifying the genes mediating bacterial blight resistance is a prerequisite for breeding cultivars with broad-spectrum and durable resistance. ...
