چکیده
Abstract We quantify the role of geography and land quality for agricultural productivity differences across countries using high-resolution micro-geography data a spatial accounting framework. The rich provide each cell covering entire globe, potential yield 18 crops, which measures maximum attainable crop output given soil quality, climate conditions, terrain topography, level cultivation inputs. While there is considerable heterogeneity in space, even within narrow geographic regions, we find that low not due to unfavourable endowments. If produced current crops according yields, rich-poor gap would virtually disappear, from 214% 5%. also evidence additional aggregate gains through reallocation changes production.

Evidence from Cross-Country Data
Using secondary data from 99 countries and IT impact literature as the guiding theoretical perspective; we examine the payoffs from e-government in the form of national performance. We do this by initially examining the relationship of e-government development with the first order government process efficiency parameters (resource spending efficiency and administrative process efficiency). متن کاملAgricultural Risk, Intermediate Inputs and Cross-Country Productivity Differences∗
Agricultural labor productivity is key for understanding aggregate cross-country income differences. One important proximate cause of low agricultural productivity is the low use of intermediate inputs, such as fertilizers, in developing countries. This paper argues that farmers in poor countries rationally choose to use fewer intermediate inputs because it limits their exposure to large uninsu...
متن کاملEvidence from German Micro‐Level Data
We analyze the offshorability of jobs using the German Qualifications and Career Survey. The paper differentiates between outsourcing potential and international tradability and systematically uses a large set of potential determinants of organizational and spatial relocation derived from the existing literature on offshoring. Applying principal component analysis, we are able to co...
متن کاملEducation and Income Inequality: New Evidence from Cross-country Data
This paper presents empirical evidence on how education is related to income distribution in a panel data set covering a broad range of countries for the period between 1960 and 1990. The findings indicate that educational factors—higher educational attainment and more equal distribution of education—play a significant role in making income distribution more equal. The results also confirm the ...
متن کاملInternational Outsourcing and Productivity: Evidence from Plant Level Data
This paper examines the effect of international outsourcing of intermediate inputs on labour productivity at the level of the plant that engages in outsourcing. To do so we use plant level data for the electronics industry in the Republic of Ireland. Using a fresh perspective on international outsourcing and productivity, we focus on the nature of outsourced inputs (services or tangibles) and t...
