Geological record of a Cretaceous seismic event paired with multiple volcanic eruptions

چکیده
Explosive volcanic eruptions can occur within days to years after an earthquake, suggesting a causal relation between them. Such paired seismic–volcanic events in the past, which occurred on human timescale, only be confirmed by field relationship of eruptive products. The Southern Kusandong Tuff (SKT) is ignimbrite Cretaceous backarc basin Korea, shows north-to-south variations grain componentry, chemical composition, magnetic properties and palaeoflow patterns, that tuff originated from two sources. Here we resulted pyroclastic density currents (PDCs), were generated synchronous volcanoes nearby arc, most likely triggered regional seismic event, then collided with each other region minutes. event raises concerns for intensified hazards over large areas regions clustered volcanoes.

Volcanic eruptions observed with infrasound
[1] Infrasonic airwaves produced by active volcanoes provide valuable insight into the eruption dynamics. Because the infrasonic pressure field may be directly associated with the flux rate of gas released at a volcanic vent, infrasound also enhances the efficacy of volcanic hazard monitoring and continuous studies of conduit processes. Here we present new results from Erebus, Fuego, and Villar...
متن کاملVolcanic Eruptions and Climate
Volcanic eruptions are an important natural cause of climate change on many timescales. A new capability to predict the climatic response to a large tropical eruption for the succeeding 2 years will prove valuable to society. In addition, to detect and attribute anthropogenic influences on climate, including effects of greenhouse gases, aerosols, and ozone-depleting chemicals, it is crucial to ...
متن کاملForecasting volcanic eruptions
Forecasting is a central goal of volcanology. Intensive monitoring of recent eruptions has generated integrated timeseries of data, which have resulted in several successful examples of warnings being issued on impending eruptions. Ability to forecast is being advanced by new technology, such as broad-band seismology, satellite observations of ground deformation and improved field spectrometers...
متن کاملStudying volcanic eruptions with aerial drones.
In 1984, the volcano Mauna Loa erupted in Hawaii, sending ribbons of lava winding down its slopes. Geologist and former pilot David Pieri of the California Institute of Technology’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory wanted to get measurements and observation of every part of the lava flow to predict its ultimate route and length. However, he only had one way to see the lava: with a helicopter. “I remem...
