Geometrical control of disorder-induced magnetic domains in planar synthetic antiferromagnets

Magnetic domains play a fundamental role in magnetization processes. However, unlike ferromagnets (FMs), the formation of antiferromagnets (AFMs) is poorly understood because they are not favored by magnetostatics and difficult to detect experimentally. In this paper, we create synthetic planar AFM with tunable lateral coupling between neighboring FM regions establish played magnetic disorder domains. By directly imaging real space, observe that lattice spontaneously breaks up into following ac demagnetization. These nucleate pin at locally disordered sites define their size shape, which explained help Gaussian random field Ising model. Furthermore, can manipulate domain morphology varying interaction strength, be tuned geometrical parameters AFM.

We consider periodic domain structures which appear due to the magnetoelastic interaction if the antiferromagnetic crystal is attached to an elastic substrate. The peculiar behavior of such structures in an external magnetic field is discussed.
