Grapevine nursery propagation material as source of fungal trunk disease pathogens in Uruguay

Grapevine fungal trunk diseases (GTDs) have become a serious problem for grapevines worldwide. Nursery vines infected during the propagation process are considered one of main ways dissemination GTD pathogens. In this study, we examined status GTDs in grapevine planting material, from rootstocks and scion mother cuttings to grafted rooted ready plant, according local nursery process. During 2018-2019, internal symptoms were 2400 materials isolations carried out subsample 1026 selected materials. Our results revealed that plants produced Uruguay high incidence GTDs, regardless scion/rootstock combination. Typical brown black streaks sectorial wood necrosis observed on all stages, with markedly increasing throughout process, reaching almost 100% plant. Botryosphaeria dieback, Petri disease black-foot found. The showed dieback pathogens infect early stages marked increase towards end plant production whereas found exclusively Diaporthe also detected but low proportion (less than 10% material). Based single locus analysis, 180 isolates placed into eight genera 89% identified within 22 species associated Phaeoacremonium oleae terebinthifolii as new records concluded locally sanitation programme is required reduce these diseases.
