Oxidation of alcohols by Botrytis cinerea.

Crude cell-free preparations of Botrytis cinerea were found to oxidize straight-chain primary alcohols (except methanol), aromatic primary alcohols, and unsaturated primary alcohols. The resulting products were the corresponding aldehydes and an equal molar quantity of hydrogen peroxide.

Properties of catalase. Catalysis of coupled oxidation of alcohols.

e.g. uricase and d-amino-acid oxidase and their respective substrates, in other words systems which react directly with molecular 02 and reduce it to H202. The increased 02 uptake was shown to be due to the secondary oxidation of ethanol to acetaldehyde by H202 formed in the primary oxidation reaction. It was a matter for some surprise to find that this secondary oxidation of ethanol took place...

Mechanistic Studies of Laccase/TEMPO Catalyzed Aerobic Oxidation of Alcohols

The reaction parameters for the Laccase/TEMPO system in the aerobic oxidation of aromatic alcohols were investigated. The optimized concentrations of laccase and alcohol were found to be 10 U/ml and 160 mM respectively. Under these conditions the use of 9 mol % TEMPO led to good conversions within 4 h. The optimum temperature for the reaction was found to be above room temperature (around 30°C).

The Protonation of MoO3 during the Partial Oxidation of Alcohols

Atomic force microscopy and X-ray diffraction have been used to characterize the structural evolution of the MoO3(010) surface during gas phase reactions with nitrogen-alcohol (methanol, ethanol, and 2-propanol) mixtures between 200 and 400◦C. Our results demonstrate that MoO3 intercalates H during these reactions (T≥ 300◦C) and that protonation leads to the precipitation of a well known hydrog...

Oxidation of Secondary Alcohols by Extracts of a Corynebacterium.

Rosenberg, Eugene (University of California, Los Angeles), and Paul Holmes. Oxidation of secondary alcohols by extracts of a Corynebacterium. J. Bacteriol. 89:1212-1216. 1965.-A Corynebacterium was isolated from soil by use of the enrichment culture technique. This Corynebacterium oxidized and grew on the chemically synthesized secondary alcohol, 3-tetrahydrofuranol. Extracts of this organism c...
