Guild structure of stored grain insects reflects food resource availability in tropical forest ecosystems

چکیده
The Guild concept has been of great interest to ecologists, and widely applied in entomology, particularly study the activity insects various ecosystems. However, guild storage entomology is understudied. We hypothesized that feeding structure stored grain insect (SGI) community changes with different food resources available. In present study, we examined tribal system. Further, established a classification system for species based on their resource exploitation pattern role associated factors involved spatial temporal SGI community. richness showed cereal feeder was dominated system, abundance varied greatly, high number pulse feeders reflect availability resources. it shows non-significant association among each at altitudes area from guilds were randomly distributed, however, congregated more preferred sources.

Trapping and Interpreting Captures of Stored Grain Insects
This chapter provides an overview of insect trapping and interpretation of trap captures for stored-product protection in bulk grain, food processing, and retail environments. The use of traps for detection, monitoring, and population estimation requires considerable knowledge of insect biology and appropriate trap use. Trap use is essential for development of meaningful integrated pest managem...
متن کاملThe Nitrogen Paradox in Tropical Forest Ecosystems
Observations of the tropical nitrogen (N) cycle over the past half century indicate that intact tropical forests tend to accumulate and recycle large quantities of N relative to temperate forests, as evidenced by plant and soil N to phosphorus (P) ratios, by P limitation of plant growth in some tropical forests, by an abundance of N-fixing plants, and by sustained export of bioavailable N at th...
متن کاملWarming and Resource Availability Shift Food Web Structure and Metabolism
Climate change disrupts ecological systems in many ways. Many documented responses depend on species' life histories, contributing to the view that climate change effects are important but difficult to characterize generally. However, systematic variation in metabolic effects of temperature across trophic levels suggests that warming may lead to predictable shifts in food web structure and prod...
متن کاملPollen use by Megalopta sweat bees in relation to resource availability in a tropical forest
1. Spatial and temporal availability of pollen helps shape bee foraging behaviour and productivity, which has been studied in great detail at the landscape level, but never in a diverse tropical forest. 2. To study the effect of spatio-temporal variation in resource distribution on pollen use and productivity, we identified pollen from spatially explicit nest collections of two generalist sweat...
متن کاملGuild-specific patterns of species richness and host specialization in plant-herbivore food webs from a tropical forest.
1. The extent to which plant-herbivore feeding interactions are specialized is key to understand the processes maintaining the diversity of both tropical forest plants and their insect herbivores. However, studies documenting the full complexity of tropical plant-herbivore food webs are lacking. 2. We describe a complex, species-rich plant-herbivore food web for lowland rain forest in Papua New...
