High-Angle Structural Color Scattering Features from Polymeric Photonic Structures

Three-dimensional goniometric measurements of structural color from melt-sheared polymer nanoparticle composites is presented revealing high-angle features arising Bragg scattering. These are in terms ‘scattering cones’ full 180° hemispherical scans showing the spectroscopic and angular properties these scattering spots. This work identifies Miller indices photonic crystal planes responsible for makes further observations as to appearance this context structures quasi-ordered systems. We probe metrics such peak wavelength tunability reflectance intensities. As such, report contributes towards an improved understanding with inherent disorder. The complexity specificity quality across hemisphere important consideration practical uses sensing applications, we suggest that soft photonics, particular, strong candidates uses.
