High-speed x-ray phase-contrast imaging of single cavitation bubbles near a solid boundary

Laser-induced cavitation bubble dynamics at different distances from a rigid boundary is investigated using high-speed synchrotron x-ray phase-contrast imaging. This achieved through the design of tailored experimental chamber specifically designed to reduce absorption along path length in water while mitigating effects. The highly resolved undistorted radiographs are able visualize sharp interface even upon complex shapes, which can serve as high-quality benchmarks for numerical simulations. Here, measured shapes compared simulations incompressible integral method. direct optical access liquid jet provides accurate measurements evolution speed, contrasted simulated results. After has impacted opposite side bubble, cavity assumes toroidal shape, volume be accurately and its temporal bubble-ring model.
