HIL Evaluation of a Novel Real-time Energy Management System for an HEV with a Continuously Variable Transmission

One of the most important challenges facing automotive engineers is reducing vehicle fuel consumption and improving drivability index. Modern hybrid electric powertrains play an role in consumption. Continuously variable transmission (CVT) automatic that can change gear ratio seamlessly using a belt pulleys. CVT performs with infinite ratios. Controlling determining optimal ratio, especially complex powertrain, major challenge. Therefore, multi-parametric model predictive controller real-time implementation capability proposed handle energy management task concurrently shifting strategy parallel pre-transmission vehicle. The hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) validation procedure on high-fidelity Autonomie shows significant improvement economy while maintaining three different driving schedules. HIL evaluation guarantees readiness to be implemented real-world control hardware.
