How Managers Respond to Paradoxical Control?Trust Dynamics in Interorganizational Relationships over Time: A Constitutive Approach

Control-trust dynamics are fundamental to organizational life, but managers struggle balance them because these draw on opposing mechanisms. Past research has mainly assumed that substitution and complementarity constitute key control-trust dynamics, which limited scholars' understanding of why difficult how deal with over time. We explore managers' responses paradoxical dynamics. conducted a longitudinal case study in pharmaceutical company dealt an interorganizational relationship university biotech firm. Our findings show (a) new category response beyond (the More-Than), (b) three enacted balancing (paradoxical thinking, fulfilling promises, transcending), (c) governance path evolve suggest ensure the performance endurance relationships.
