How mixed reality shifts visual attention and success in experimental problem solving

چکیده
While commercially available mixed-reality (MR) head-mounted devices are also increasingly used in education the impact of MR learning environments is mostly being evaluated with respect to outcomes and gains alongside a number affective variables. Here we aim at deeper understanding influence on experimental problem-solving processes by means eye-tracking analyses as an addition self-reported questionnaire-based test instruments. On basis didactically empirically sound designed environment for problem solving electrical circuit investigate how novices experts differ their success visual attention both non-MR condition. Our results indicate that not only has positive effect groups solving, but it accompanied significant shifts different parts experiment.Received 1 October 2021Accepted 8 June 2022DOI:https://doi.org/10.1103/PhysRevPhysEducRes.18.023101Published American Physical Society under terms Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International license. Shifts of Covert Visual Attention:
Shifts of covert attention differ depending on whether the shift is exogenously or endogenously motivated. The present study examined whether crossing imaginary meridia in the visual field influences shifts directed by central or peripheral cues. A two-alternative forced-choice discrimination task was employed under direction from 70 % valid central and peripheral cues. In comparison to central...
متن کاملSmooth shifts of visual attention
To examine whether visual attention shifts continuously across the visual field, we measured sensitivity to a small flash presented at various locations while the observer was tracking a moving target in an ambiguous apparent motion display. The sensitivity peaked near the target and the peak shifted smoothly along the apparent motion path. Since the peak-shift speed varied with the speed of th...
متن کاملPredictors of Success in Diagrammatic Problem Solving
We conducted an eye-tracking study of mechanical problem solving from cross-sectional diagrams of devices. Response time, accuracy and eye movement data were collected and analyzed for 72 problem-solving episodes (9 subjects solving 8 problems each). Results indicate that longer response times and visually attending to more components of a device do not necessarily lead to increased accuracy. H...
متن کاملQuantifying attention shifts in augmented reality image-guided neurosurgery
Image-guided surgery (IGS) has allowed for more minimally invasive procedures, leading to better patient outcomes, reduced risk of infection, less pain, shorter hospital stays and faster recoveries. One drawback that has emerged with IGS is that the surgeon must shift their attention from the patient to the monitor for guidance. Yet both cognitive and motor tasks are negatively affected with at...
متن کاملVisual Analogy in Problem Solving
Computational models of analogical problem solving have traditionally described source and target domains in terms of their causal structure. But psychological research shows that visual reasoning plays a part for many kinds of analogies. This paper describes a model that transfers a solution from a source analog to a new target problem using only visual knowledge represented symbolically. The ...
