Human Factors Engineering: Designing for Diversity and Accessibility

As the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society Diversity, Equity, Inclusion Committee enters its fifth year, it continues to encourage society, annual meeting attendees, human factors professionals improve diversity equity within field. At center of this field are humans their widely varying needs abilities. While HFE devote themselves these needs, details often overlooked in order design for what is assumed be a majority users. These assumptions can then lead users rejected by products, systems, or objects. This rejection indicates lack accessibility, which affects millions worldwide. In panel, experts areas universal design, healthcare, accessible will discuss how “do” accessibility while demonstrating that should considered required component usability.
