Dolomitization processes in hydrocarbon reservoirs: insight from geothermometry using clumped isotopes
Clumped isotopes geothermometry was applied to two dolomitic hydrocarbon reservoirs. Results indicate that late burial dolomitization occurred at ~110°C in the Albian Pinda dolostone (offshore Angola) and ~90°C in the Mano-Meillon dolostone (Aquitaine Basin, France), and did not continue on during subsequent burial/thermal evolution to present-day conditions (150160°C). This study illustrates t...
متن کاملAbiogenic hydrocarbon production at lost city hydrothermal field.
Low-molecular-weight hydrocarbons in natural hydrothermal fluids have been attributed to abiogenic production by Fischer-Tropsch type (FTT) reactions, although clear evidence for such a process has been elusive. Here, we present concentration, and stable and radiocarbon isotope, data from hydrocarbons dissolved in hydrogen-rich fluids venting at the ultramafic-hosted Lost City Hydrothermal Fiel...

HIS GREATNESS What splendid power and greatness God displayed by His creation. The Creator is a fortiori greater than His creation. Isaiah declared that Israel's God holds in the hollow of one hand all the water of the sea, and with the outstretched fingers of His other hand measures the expanse of the sky. Isaiah then added that God could take all the dust of the earth and pour it into His lit...
متن کاملGenomic insights into potential interdependencies in microbial hydrocarbon and nutrient cycling in hydrothermal sediments
BACKGROUND Deep-sea hydrothermal vents are hotspots for productivity and biodiversity. Thermal pyrolysis and circulation produce fluids rich in hydrocarbons and reduced compounds that stimulate microbial activity in surrounding sediments. Several studies have characterized the diversity of Guaymas Basin (Gulf of California) sediment-inhabiting microorganisms; however, many of the identified tax...
متن کاملMetazoans in extreme environments: adaptations of hydrothermal vent and hydrocarbon seep fauna.
Some of the most extreme environments where animals survive are associated with active vents and seeps in the deep sea. In addition to the extreme pressure, low temperatures, and lack of light that characterize the deep sea in general, a variety of other factors that are hostile to most animals prevail in these environments. Hydrothermal vent regions show extremes in temperature, areas of very ...
