Identification of Microplastics in Plastic Bottled Drinking Water Using Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) and Raman Spectroscopy

Microplastics contamination in drinking water is a growing concern globally as reported recent papers. Here we report an investigation on the identification and classification of microplastics present bottled using Laser induced breakdown spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy. Different brands from different manufacturers were sampled for this Kenya. Rapid polymer types presence was done with Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy, Spectroscopy. The two techniques used to determine molecular atomic information various MP polymers detected scattered signal plasma spectra. Five polyethylene terephthalate (PET), (PE), polystyrene (PS), polypropylene (PP) polyvinyl chloride (PVC) successfully identified water. Among five polymers, most common PE, which observed 5 out 14 samples (35.71%). second dominant PET, 4 (28.57%). Three PS (14.28%) PP 2 each, while PVC (7.14%) 1 sample. All particles had sizes ranging between 20 µm 70 µm. findings clearly demonstrate possible microplastics. spectroscopy Induced (LIBS) are promising detection
