Identifying treatment moderators of a trauma-informed parenting intervention with children in foster care: Using model-based recursive partitioning

چکیده
Abstract Background Trauma-informed parenting interventions have been used in child welfare to help caregivers respond children trauma-informed ways that can mitigate the effects of maltreatment and build strong caregiver-child relationships. Existing studies support their effectiveness with youth involved system. However, further advance evidenced-based intervention for populations, one key step is identify subgroups individuals who different responses or outcomes. Objective To pre-treatment moderators distinguish benefit differently from an intervention. Participants setting 414 foster care (age 3 younger) (birth, adoptive, kin, nonkin) were randomly assigned receive a Illinois Birth through Three Title IV-E waiver demonstration services as usual. Methods Model-based Recursive Partitioning (MOB) was treatment moderator interactions. MOB fits parametric model uses data-driven method find which specified has parameters. Two models (logistic linear regression) accordance two outcomes: reunification (binary) attachment (continuous). We examined 21 potential both models. Results For outcome, produced following three moderators, identified participants responded intervention: (a) caregivers’ relationship (kin vs. non-kin/permanent caregivers), (b) attachment, (c) case history physical abuse. age found be moderator. Future developments should consider these moderators.

A promising parenting intervention in foster care.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of a 2-component intervention for biological and foster parent (pairs) to improve parenting practices, co-parenting, and child externalizing problems. Participants were biological and foster parents (N=128) of primarily neglected children (ages 3 to 10 years) placed in regular foster homes. Biological and foster parents were randomly a...
متن کاملTrauma-Informed Behavioral Parenting: Early Intervention for Child Welfare
Untreated trauma exposure in early childhood can lead to immediate health problems which can persist throughout a lifetime. Caregivers often voice concerns about their children who have behavioral health problems like sleep disturbance, feeding problems, tantrums, aggression, and irritability when caring for these children. While several effective parenting treatments exist for these children, ...
متن کاملModel-based Recursive Partitioning
Recursive partitioning is embedded into the general and well-established class of parametric models that can be fitted using M-type estimators (including maximum likelihood). An algorithm for model-based recursive partitioning is suggested for which the basic steps are: (1) fit a parametric model to a data set, (2) test for parameter instability over a set of partitioning variables, (3) if ther...
متن کاملEffects of a foster parent training intervention on placement changes of children in foster care.
Placement disruptions undermine efforts of child welfare agencies to promote safety, permanency, and child well-being. Child behavior problems significantly contribute to placement changes. The aims of this investigation were to examine the impact of a foster parent training and support intervention (KEEP) on placement changes and to determine whether the intervention mitigates placement disrup...
