<i>In-Situ</i> Observation of Initial Stage Cosmetic Corrosion Behavior under Wet and Dry Conditions

It is well known that the types of automotive corrosion can be divided into perforation and cosmetic corrosion. Although mechanism has been studied extensively, not yet clarified. The authors investigated behavior cold-rolled steel sheets without galvanizing with an in-situ observation device. After coating samples by cathodic electrodeposition (ED), sample surface was scribed a cutter. Corrosion resistance evaluated under cyclic test. found progress under-film consisted 3 steps. 1st step occurs in initial stage dry process cycle. In this step, red rust gradually changed to black rust. 2nd latter process, progressed from part. 3rd wet tip displayed swelling behavior. cycle, cycle were repeated.
