Impact of salmon farming on Atlantic cod spatio-temporal reproductive dynamics

چکیده
Salmon farming in marine net pens is a major activity many temperate regions. This industry may affect coastal ecosystems several ways, such as with waste pollution and parasite spillover. Less known about the extent to which salmon disrupts use of inshore spawning grounds by wild fish, Atlantic cod Gadus morhua . Acoustic telemetry was therefore used explore space during season region mid-Norway multiple farms. receivers were placed clusters at 5 6 nearby Data from 481 adult caught 2017-2019 equipped acoustic transmitters analysed. Overall, fewer fish detected farms than grounds, even when accounting for distance release point. Individual residency (days / duration period) generally higher close but low themselves, little apparent farm localities. In contrast, clearly occurring spending weeks (n = 316) or months 158) there period. Males had longer residence times females, likely linked mating system. we found support assertion that disrupt dynamics using presently, either attracting spawners causing leave these grounds.

Impact of Atlantic salmon cage culture on sediment chemistry in Mjoifjordur, Iceland
Impact of Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) cage culture in Mjoifjordur, Eastern Iceland on the chemistry of the sediment was investigated. Sediment samples were collected using a Shipek grab in December 2003. A core sub-sample was taken from each grab for analyzing total organic matter, total organic carbon, total nitrogen and phosphorus in different depths from three stations at various distances...

متن کاملSalmon-farming impacts on wild salmon.
C oncerns have been raised about the impact of farmed fish on wild fish through a range of mechanisms including disease and the impact of fish that escape from farms (1). Although Alaska has banned salmon farming and Washington has developed only a very small industry, British Columbia, with an extensive network of protected inlets, has developed a very large salmon-farming industry, now consid...
متن کاملA stochastic model for infectious salmon anemia (ISA) in Atlantic salmon farming.
Infectious salmon anemia (ISA) is one of the main infectious diseases in Atlantic salmon farming with major economical implications. Despite the strong regulatory interventions, the ISA epidemic is not under control, worldwide. We study the data covering salmon farming in Norway from 2002 to 2005 and propose a stochastic space-time model for the transmission of the virus. We model seaway transm...
متن کاملPopulation dynamics of salmon lice Lepeophtheirus salmonis on Atlantic salmon and sea trout
The salmon louse Lepeophtheirus salmonis is a common ectoparasite of both farmed and wild salmonids in the marine environment, and can have a significant negative effect on the survival and growth of its host. To facilitate development of models of salmon lice population dynamics, we review the available experimental information on its demographic rates and highlight areas where further researc...
