Impact of scene-specific enhancement spectra on matched filter greenhouse gas retrievals from imaging spectroscopy

چکیده

Matched filter (MF) techniques have been widely used for retrieval of greenhouse gas enhancements (enh.) from imaging spectroscopy datasets. While multiple algorithmic and refinements proposed, the target spectrum concentration enh. estimation has remained largely unaltered since introduction quantitative MF retrievals. The magnitude retrieved methane carbon dioxide enh., thereby integrated mass (IME) estimated flux point-source emitters, is heavily dependent on this spectrum. Current standard use molecular absorption coefficients to create unit spectra does not account by background concentrations gases, solar sensor geometry, or atmospheric water vapor absorption. We introduce geometric parameters into generation scene-specific (SS) provide that are compatible with all techniques. For plumes, IME resulting standard, generic varied -22 +28.7% compared SS spectra. Due differences in spectral shape between spectra, plume were linked surface characteristics addition parameters. producing -76.1 -48.1% Fluxes calculated these would vary same %s, assuming equivalent wind conditions. Methane most sensitive changes zenith angle ground elevation. can improve confidence retrievals estimates across collections scenes diverse

H2O retrievals from Jungfraujoch infrared spectra:

Since 1949, solar absorption spectra have been acquired at the Jungfraujoch observatory (Swiss Alps, 46.5°N, 8.0°E, 3580 m a.s.l.), first with grating spectrometers, then with Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectrometers. Most observations collected with these instruments encompass water vapor absorptions, even the narrow spectral domains regularly recorded with the grating instruments to mo...

Inelastic scattering in ocean water and its impact on trace gas retrievals from satellite data

Over clear ocean waters, photons scattered within the water body contribute significantly to the upwelling flux. In addition to elastic scattering, inelastic Vibrational Raman Scattering (VRS) by liquid water is also playing a role and can have a strong impact on the spectral distribution of the outgoing radiance. Under clear-sky conditions, VRS has an influence on trace gas retrievals from spa...
