Improvement of weld heat affected zone (HAZ) using Taguchi method

Heat Affected Zone (HAZ) is the area on a weldment mostly affected by intensity of applied heat without melting. This deteriorates faster due to microstructural changes that occur during welding operations. Weld structural failures can be catastrophic and unpredictable at times. When there no loss human life involved, damages as result weld failure usually takes more time cost repair/replace. For these reasons, with good quality integrity cannot over-emphasized. The larger HAZ, wider alteration, lesser weldment. In this study, extensive research was conducted reduce HAZ using Taguchi method. method makes use signal noise ratio responses achieve optimality. From applying model, it observed best input parameters, improved achieved. These parameters were current 120A, voltage 10V gas flow rate 144L/min. analysis variance (ANOVA), found contributed about 9.58% quality, which most influential process parameters. confirmation test done, shows produced optimum had an improvement 1.37db 0.88mm reduction in over made existing
