Improving the Strategy of Maintaining Offshore Wind Turbines through Petri Net Modelling

In order to improve the operation and maintenance (O&M) of offshore wind turbines, a new Petri net (PN)-based turbine model is developed in this paper simulate O&M activities an farm. With aid PN developed, three potential strategies are studied. They (1) carrying out periodic components at different frequencies according their specific reliability features; (2) conducting full inspection entire system following major repair; (3) equipping with condition monitoring (CMS) that has powerful fault detection capability. From research results, it found essential, but ensure operated economically, needs be carried optimal frequency. Conducting repair enables efficient utilisation resources. If performed infrequently, measure leads less unexpected shutdowns, lower downtime, costs. It been shown install CMS helpful relieve burden maintenance. Moreover, higher quality CMS, more downtime costs can reduced. However, cost considered, as high may make uneconomical.
