In Vivo Comparison of Ultimate Tensile Strength and Surface Topography of Three Different Nickel–Titanium Archwires

Objective: To investigate the surface topography and ultimate tensile strength of 3 types nickel–titanium (NiTi) wires before after months intraoral use to assess efficiency in cases requiring extensive alignment. Methods: NiTi 0.016″ (0.40 mm) were divided into groups—martensitic stabilized NiTi™ (group 1), austenitic active Copper 27°C 2), martensitic copper 35°C 3)—each further 2 subgroups: (a) as-received wires; (b) used wires. Each wire was subjected scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis testing. Ultimate data analyzed using one-way variance (ANOVA) Tukey testing at .05 level significance. Results: Martensitic archwires had a significantly lower (93.99 ± 0.23 MPa) than (116.96 0.43 (106.94 0.36 archwires. Among archwires, ones showed most least degradation.
