Increasing tree density accelerates stand‐level nitrogen cycling at the taiga–tundra ecotone in northeastern Siberia

چکیده

As climate warms, tree density at the taiga–tundra ecotone (TTE) is expected to increase, which may intensify competition for belowground resources in this nitrogen (N)-limited environment. To determine impacts of increased on N cycling and productivity, we examined edaphic properties indicative soil availability along with aboveground tree-level traits stand characteristics related carbon (C) across a gradient monodominant larch (Larix cajanderi) TTE far northeastern Siberia. We found no consistent evidence from soil, tree, or stand-level lower greater intraspecific density. Active layer thickness declined, but resin-sorbed organic did not covary There was, however, allocation coarse fine roots density, an pattern suggestive limited resources. Foliar C (%C, δ13C, resorption) were responsive indicating importance non-nutrient resources, like light, foliar stoichiometry. individual trees had biomass pools declined tracking decreases uptake, resorption, use efficiency, slow tissues wood. At level, our findings show high turnover acquisition, short-lived relatively content reduced residence time, productivity as increased. Yet, these positive relationships curtailed highest densities. Our observations shifts biomass, allocation, loss aboveground, root could have strong should be represented models dynamics feedbacks climate.

Breeding Biology of the Eurasian Nuthatch in Northeastern Siberia

AnsTn.Kr. -The breeding biology of Eurasian Nuthatches (Sitta europaea asiatica) was studied in 1986-1990 in two habitats, riparian and upland forests, in the Magadan region, northeastern Siberia. Clutch sizes and breeding success averaged 6.49 eggs and 57.5%, respectively, and varied among years. Habitat influenced clutch size but not numbers of young fledged from successful nests. Within seas...

Tree Height-Diameter Relationships in the Alpine Treeline Ecotone Compared with Those in Closed Forests on Changbai Mountain, Northeastern China

Height-diameter relationship is one of the most important stature characteristics of trees. It will change with climatic conditions because height and diameter growth displays different sensitivities to climatic factors such as temperature. Detecting and understanding changes in the stature of trees growing along altitudinal gradients up to their upper limits can help us to better understand th...

The Effects of Warming and Nitrogen Addition on Soil Nitrogen Cycling in a Temperate Grassland, Northeastern China

BACKGROUND Both climate warming and atmospheric nitrogen (N) deposition are predicted to affect soil N cycling in terrestrial biomes over the next century. However, the interactive effects of warming and N deposition on soil N mineralization in temperate grasslands are poorly understood. METHODOLOGY/PRINCIPAL FINDINGS A field manipulation experiment was conducted to examine the effects of war...

Evaluation of different sampling method to study of tree density (tree/hectare) in the Zagros forest

For maintaining of Zagros forests role in wild life, water and soil conservation, the suitable solutions and methods for assessing the existing conditions and planning for management of this forests should be given. To detection of suitable sampling method to study tree density in the northern Zagros forest, Blake forest, in Baneeh region, Kurdistan province, and west of Iran was selected. 40 s...
