Independence systems with continuous cardinality of bases

The maximum cardinality basis problem in a genoid (i.e. an independence system), although NP-complete in general, is solvable in a polynomial time in the following cases: matchings of a graph [l], intersection of two matroi’ds [2,4] and independent set of vertices in claw-free graphs [S, 71. These three genoi’ds satisfy the continuous cardinal&y of bases for all their minors. The aim of this pa...

A New Approach to Continuous Riesz Bases

This paper deals with continuous frames and continuous Riesz bases. We introduce continuous Riesz bases and give some equivalent conditions for a continuous frame to be a continuous Riesz basis. It is certainly possible for a continuous frame to have only one dual. Such a continuous frame is called a Riesz-type frame [13]. We show that a continuous frame is Riesz-type if and only if it is a con...

The relations between matroids of arbitrary cardinality and independence spaces

This paper deals with the relationships between two classes of infinite matroids–the classes of matroids of arbitrary cardinality and of independence spaces primarily with the help of hyperplane set approach and sometimes of closure operator approach.

A short proof on the cardinality of maximal positive bases

A positive basis is a minimal set of vectors whose nonnegative linear combinations span the entire space Rn. Interest in positive bases was revived in the late nineties by the introduction and analysis of some classes of direct search optimization algorithms. It is easily shown that the cardinality of every positive basis is bounded below by n + 1. There are proofs in the literature that 2n is ...

Least Supported Bases and Local Linear Independence

We introduce the concept of least supported basis, which is very useful for numerical purposes. We prove that this concept is equivalent to the local linear independence of the basis. For any given locally linearly independent basis we characterize all the bases of the space sharing the same property. Several examples for spline spaces are given.
