چکیده
Biofouling of surfaces is a major cause infection and leads to significant patient morbidity mortality within healthcare settings. With ever-increasing concerns over antibiotic resistance associated challenges in eradicating surface-attached biofilm communities, efficacious antifouling materials are urgently required. We herein describe the development an inherently antiadherent polymer system with capacity for on-demand cleavage surface-localized surfactant moieties. The nonionic surfactant, Triton X-100, was linked hydrogel monomers via hydrolytically labile ester bonds. Synthesized copolymers exhibited pH-dependent switching release, elution triggered under alkaline conditions characteristic catheter-associated urinary tract infections subsequently slowed down as pH decreased, representing eradication infection. In addition, demonstrated complete adherence Staphylococcus aureus following 24 h incubation infected artificial urine, reductions Proteus mirabilis up 89% also observed. This dual-pronged approach active, infection-responsive enhance properties surfactant-modified represents promising self-cleaning strategy without bacterial resistance.

Self-cleaning of superhydrophobic surfaces by self-propelled jumping condensate.
The self-cleaning function of superhydrophobic surfaces is conventionally attributed to the removal of contaminating particles by impacting or rolling water droplets, which implies the action of external forces such as gravity. Here, we demonstrate a unique self-cleaning mechanism whereby the contaminated superhydrophobic surface is exposed to condensing water vapor, and the contaminants are au...
متن کاملOn-Demand Query Result Cleaning
Incomplete data is ubiquitous. When a user issues a query over incomplete data, the results may contain incomplete data as well. If a user requires high precision query results, or current estimation algorithms fail to make accurate estimates on incomplete data, data collection by humans may instead be used to find values for, or to confirm this incomplete data. We propose an approach that incr...
متن کاملSelf-cleaning of Surfaces: the Role of Surface Wettability and Dust Types
The self-cleaning property is usually connected to superhydrophobic surfaces (SHSs) where the dust particles can be easily removed by the rolling motion of droplets. It seems that superhydrophobicity (its durability is questionable nowadays) is a necessity. However here, it is disclosed that self-cleaning can also be realized on an ordinary surface by droplet impinging. The effects of surface w...
متن کاملBlack silicon with self-cleaning surface prepared by wetting processes
This paper reports on a simple method to prepare a hydrophobic surface on black silicon, which is fabricated by metal-assisted wet etching. To increase the reaction rate, the reaction device was placed in a heat collection-constant temperature type magnetic stirrer and set at room temperature. It was demonstrated that the micro- and nanoscale spikes on the black silicon made the surface become ...
متن کاملSelf-healing of surfactant surface micelles on millisecond time scales.
We study the dynamics of surfactant micelles at the solid-liquid interface using a new atomic force-microscopic imaging mode to visualize the nanometer-level structural features of the micelles and the picometer-level lattice of the substrate simultaneously. We find that defects created in a crystalline micellar array by the scanning probe tip self-heal flawlessly in less than 6 ms.
